Parents often wonder how they can best support their child’s education but struggle to sort through so many choices and resources available.
Meanwhile, there are those parents who have decided to take a step ahead and sort it all out with an education strategy – a roadmap to get their child from low marks to significantly improved results.
Education strategies are like guides that help parents and students navigate high school to get the most out of children’s education. But a strategy can only take your child to a certain point in their academic journey.
In this blog, we explore how Bea went from having zero plans and going backwards in progress to getting a 10% increase in her marks and straight into her preferred course in university. We also share how you make the same impact and improve your child’s marks.
How Bea achieved a 10% increase in her results
When we first met Bea, she was a diligent and disciplined high-achiever – a self-labelled ‘hard worker’. Her teachers and parents often praised her for working hard.
However, Bea wasn’t getting the marks she wanted. So she tried to work harder and longer. She stayed up the night before exams until she felt exhausted and almost burnt out. But instead of improving, Bea’s marks went backwards, and things started to fall apart.
That’s when Bea’s parents asked us to support her academic recovery.
With high-achieving students, we always run a performance mindset assessment to identify vulnerabilities and opportunities for amplification.
That’s when we spotted it: Bea believed she needed to work HARD to get a high ATAR and into Law. That meant spending hours and late nights on practice papers that weren’t hard because otherwise, she wouldn’t feel prepared.
With the support of Bea’s family, we helped her develop a specialised study strategy to stabilise her declining marks and rebuild her confidence. We also implemented black-out zones on weekends and created energy breaks for each week.
Within a term, Bea achieved a 10% increase in her marks, putting in 30% less effort. Bea also got straight into law at Sydney University.
What’s amazing about Bea’s story is that she was able to recover and improve her marks while having a boyfriend during her HSC and being a house captain.
A strategy without action is just a wish
Working with thousands of families who have adopted an education strategy, we saw that results won’t surface unless you pair it with proper implementation. It’s all about the ‘40-60 Rule’.
Having a strategy is just 40% of your child’s academic journey. The action they take makes up the rest of the 60%. In Bea’s case, she already got the 60% to boost her marks.
However, she lacked strategy, which is why she couldn’t reach 100% and improve her results.
If your child already has a strategy in place, supporting them is all about being proactive and not waiting for them or for things to get accomplished. Having a strategy can show your child the shortcuts, but getting it done makes the real difference. As parents, you play the critical role of supporting your child to be accountable and help them get to 100% in their academic journey.
But what if you don’t have a strategy in place for your child yet, and they’re about to face senior school and inches away from university?
We’re doing a session for Year 10-12 parents so your child doesn’t miss out on the best career and life opportunities after high school. It’s going to be live on Zoom with experts, and we’re calling it ‘Your Choice of University’.
We invited four experts on teen motivation, study skills, ATAR calculations, university admissions and career advice to share their practical tips and strategies. The session will be recorded, and we’ll send the access link to the recording, planning call and resources to those who signed up for the event.
Join us to engage with our experts and ask questions OR watch the recording when you’re free. Either way, you wouldn’t want to miss this.
