FAQs

You asked, we answered.

At Kalibrate-Ed, we are strategy advisors, not tutors. We get to know your child before creating an actionable strategy tailored to their academic goals and unique learning needs.

We then help them execute the strategy and get the best results through personalised sessions, 24/7 email support and full suite of ‘add-on’ tools.

These tools are designed to boost your child’s learning and accelerate results. They include our popular ‘Ongoing Support’ option, in which an expert strategy advisor manages the execution of your child’s strategy from beginning to end.

Traditional tutoring is subject-specific and teacher-centric. That means a tutor typically teaches your child what to learn based on the tutor’s preferred educational style.

By contrast, Kalibrate-Ed’s strategic advisory is skills-based and child-centric. We don’t just fill gaps in your child’s education. Rather, we equip them with a step-by-step strategy that aligns their academic objectives with their unique learning profile. This teaches them how to learn, unlocking their potential.

 CONTENT-CENTRICSTUDENT-CENTRIC
WHAT IT LOOKS LIKEThe traditional approach. Students are taught pre-determined content according to the educator’s preferred teaching style and format. Found in most schools (including distance or online education) and coaching colleges. The modern approach. The educator takes the time to understand the student’s most optimal learning style. They then adapt their teaching techniques to suit the student’s needs.
AIMTo teach prescribed course content as quickly and predictably as possible.

To unlock a student’s potential by teaching students how to remove or overcome any barriers to learning and academic achievement.

THE FOCUSPlugging knowledge gaps in a specific subject.  Teaching skills that support the student’s learning and can be applied to any subject or situation.
IDEAL FOR

Students who need to know what they are learning.

For example, your child’s report card may read: “Student needs to relearn course content, fill gaps in their knowledge or clarify concepts.”

Students who need to know how to use what they are learning.

For example, your child’s report card may read: “Student must develop their writing style; demonstrate more in-depth knowledge; fully answer the question; plan their study more effectively; put in a system to revise content more thoroughly; not leave things to the last minute.”

No.

Kalibrate-Ed’s tailored strategies are 100% based on the Australian education curriculum and perfectly aligned with university admission requirements.

The key difference is rather than repetitively teaching the same course content from A to Z – as traditional tutors do – our advisors evaluate each student’s knowledge and skill level relative to the syllabus to pinpoint where help is needed most. They then focus on teaching the specifics your child needs to improve their grades with the least amount of time, effort and stress.

Because Kalibrate-Ed takes a unique student-centric, skills-based approach, our techniques are effective with a wide variety of people and situations, including:

  • All Year 7 to 12 students in any Australian curriculum
  • Bachelor and post-graduate students
  • Emerging young executives and entrepreneurs doing professional development

Yes.

Kalibrate-Ed has extensive experience working with students with unique circumstances. That includes:

  • Supporting students with medical or mental health needs, including mood disorders, neurodiversity, disability or chronic health conditions. We can work with your child’s school and integrate advice from specialists such as psychologists and psychiatrists, as well as provide coordination and instruction to your tutors.
  • Working with students experiencing asymmetric study disruption, including distance-education students, home-schooled students, high-profile or diplomatic families, refugees, and elite athletes.

Your child will start seeing results from day one, before building on their new skills each session.

All skills are transferable across subjects and levels of study. Once acquired, your child can apply these skills as they progress in their education and subsequent career.

Yes. In fact, they’re often better.

Our virtual sessions are delivered live on a two-way audio-visual platform, with a host of sharing and collaboration features. Students and their advisors can work seamlessly together with complete flexibility and control.

This creates a high-trust, low-risk environment that is vital for effective learning. It also helps prepare your child for an increasingly tech-based world by demonstrating how technology can be mastered for a productive purpose, rather than a distraction.

A student’s unique learning profile identifies how they learn most effectively. It’s based on several factors, including:

  • Learning style
  • Cognitive ability
  • Personality
  • Environmental factors

We use three steps to assess a student’s unique learning profile:

  1. Conducting a discovery assessment – during which we uncover the distinct set of learning needs that must be met for your child to learn effectively. We may consider school report cards, psychometric testing and other available reports.
  2. Aligning learning needs with academic objectives – using the information identified in the discovery assessment, we create a plan to align your child’s needs with their academic objectives.
  3. Ongoing assessments – after each session, the advisor does an informal evaluation to ensure your child’s strategy is up-to-date and responsive to their changing needs.

Yes. That’s because our virtual sessions are highly interactive and designed to elicit engagement from students of all ages.

We monitor your child’s responses as they do their work. If their engagement appears to drop, our strategy advisors have techniques to recapture and refocus attention.

At Kalibrate-Ed, we value transparency, so you’re welcome to observe your child’s sessions.

Students are benchmarked according to their individual strategy, making their progress easy to track and measure in real time.

Each session, your education strategy advisor checks current student progress against milestones set in the previous sessions and overall strategy. They monitor items of non-progress or emerging study disruptions closely, investigating and reporting as required.

We provide comprehensive reports on a regular basis, and we encourage parents to check in with us whenever they feel the need.
